Free Pattern: Easy Leg Warmers

I made these legwarmers for my sister, who grew up in the 80s and requested a pair. (Actually she requested a full-body catsuit but settled on legwarmers.) They are quite cozy - I'm considering making another pair for myself!

You will need about 5 oz medium, worsted weight yarn. I used red heart super saver yarn in oatmeal.
H hook, or hook needed to obtain guage.
Gauge: 4 hdc=1 inch. 5 rows=2 inches
Make two:
Round 1: Ch 46
Round 2: Sc in second ch from hook. Sc in next 4 ch. Hdc until 5 ch remain. Sc in 5 remaining ch. Ch 1 turn. (45)
(For a slightly ribbed pattern, work only backloops from now on. Otherwise, continue normally.)
Round 3: Sc in 5 sc, hdc in every hdc, sc in sc. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Round 3 until legwarmers are wide enough to wrap around your legs. I did 40 rows total, and they’re a little loose. I recommend doing 14 inches (7 inches folded over).

Finish: Fold piece in half and line up first and last rows. Using same yarn, stitch together top to bottom. If you would like, finish by single crocheting around the top and bottom opening. To make the top adjustable, thread yarn through the top and leave the ends free for tightening and tying. I just left my openings unfinished.
As always, I would love to see your end result!
Please respect my work. This pattern is free to use. Do not claim this pattern as your own. Do not sell this pattern. I don't mind what you do with the pieces you make using my patterns. Credit and a link back to this blog would be nice if you sell your finished piece, but I'm not requiring it.
